Pain medications and specifically opioids are an important part of your care. Therefore, we want to make sure you are on the appropriate medications for your specific pain.Opioids are just another tool in our arsenal that contributes to achieving your goal: less pain, increased function, more confidence, better health.Opioids have serious side effects and their long-term use may have dangerous, and frequently fatal results.

We believe a trusting relationship builds a safety mechanism that will prevent such horrible mishaps. Our principles for safe use of opioids include the lowest effective dose, continuous attempts to taper down their doses, and conditioning their use on measurable improvement milestones, including improved mobility, increased strength, return to work.

Patients who choose to sign an  Opioid Prescription Agreement with Northeast Arkansas Pain Medicine Clinic and The Pain Center of Jonesboro will be prescribed all their pain medications. We don’t discharge any patient for failing to comply with our opioid policy agreement. We simply choose to treat them with alternative, but equally effective means. Remember, they are just another tool, but not an essential one.

As part of the agreement, you will have to accept being subjected to monitoring rules which may seem intrusive, occasionally disruptive and, at times, outright onerous. They include urine tests and pill counts. We have to enforce strict rules, which enable us to act as your best advocates. Facing a tsunami of rules and regulations, we can only defend your best interests by complying fully and transparently.

If you ever feel slighted, inconvenienced, or under some form of suspicion, we apologize. And we only hope we’ll have your patience and understanding to rely on. Because we’re in this together, with a common goal: to make you healthier and happier, and to keep you safe in the process.
